Dolce Amore makes cookies, all sorts of cookies in all sorts of flavors: Biscotti, Chocolate Chip, Butterscotch Pecan, Macaroons, Cookie Cake…Dog Cookies. Based in Strongsville, Ohio, Dolce Amore’s wares have started to make their way to Columbus, popping up in the local eating scene.
Consider the house Cranberry White Chocolate Cookies. Sold in packages of three, each cookie is roughly the size of an outstretched hand – and equally thick. That is, one cookie is probably going to be a pretty hefty treat for a single snacker. The cookie offers up crisped edges, but is still tender enough to bend a little when broken into chunks. That’s ideal in the cookie department: A crumbly cookie is likely to be stale, and a super-bendy cookie tends to come off as fakey. Dolce Amore hits the textural sweet spot.
In terms of chuck-to-cookie ratio, things look good there too. You get sweet chips and tart cranberries in every bite of the big cookies. They’re held together by a base that boasts lots of organic ingredients, including both flour and sugar. So, it’s got the natural angle covered too.
If cranberry’s not your game, the bakery makes a classic chocolate chip cookie dotted with traditional semi-sweet chips. For something more exotic, there’s a Double Chocolate Salty Cashew White Chocolate Chip version. You can likely guess what’s involved there.
At the other end of the spectrum, that is the dog cookie arena. Dolce Amore puts just as much care into its puppy fare. Its cookies for canines are made from pumpkin or banana puree with peanut butter and flax seed. In the interest of disclosure, we did not taste test the dog cookies. That can be an activity for another occasion.
All of Dolce Amore’s products, from biscotti to doggie treats, are available at its online store as dolceamorecookies.com. Its big cookies for humans can be found at local grocers such as Weiland’s here in town.
